Hello, Please ask a question about DS481TM Datasheet
# Example questions:
➢ Describe the conditions required for the ds481 to enter sleep mode, and what is the impact on current consumption?
➢ What is the maximum number of nodes supported on an rs-485 bus using the ds481, and how does this compare to standard rs-485 drivers?
➢ What defines a 'unit load' for an rs-485 receiver, and how does the ds481's unit load compare to a standard rs-485 receiver?
1. General Description & Function:
️· The DS481TM is an RS-485 transceiver, designed for multipoint data transmission.
️· It's intended for use in industrial environments and other applications needing robust communication.
️· It has a sleep mode for power savings.
️· It's a 1/2 unit load device, allowing for more nodes (up to 64) on a bus.
2. Key Features:
️· RS-485 Interface: Full-duplex communication.
️· Data Rates: Up to 10 Mbps
️· Power Supply: 4.75V to 5.25V
️· Sleep Mode: Significantly reduces power consumption (10µA vs 500µA when active).
️· 1/2 Unit Load: Supports more nodes on a bus.
️· Automatic Operation: Requires minimal external components.
️· Thermal Shutdown: Protects against overheating.
️· Fail-Safe Features: Prevents data corruption in case of open circuit or short circuit.
3. Unit Load and Bus Topology:
️· Unit Load Definition: A measure of the input current vs. voltage characteristic of an RS-485 receiver. A full unit load is defined by specific voltage/current ranges.
️· 1/2 Unit Load Benefit: Allows for more devices on a single bus. The DS481's 1/2 unit load capability allows a maximum of 64 nodes on a bus.
️· Bus Length: Recommended cable length will depend on data rate and environmental factors.
4. Sleep Mode Details:
️· Activation: Enters sleep mode when both the Driver Output Enable (DE) pin is LOW and the Receiver Enable (RE) is HIGH.
️· Wake-up: The device awakens when either the DE pin is HIGH or the RE pin is LOW.
️· Timing: There are delays entering and exiting sleep mode. Refer to the datasheet specifications.
5. Application Information:
️· Multipoint RS-485 Applications: Suitable for industrial networks, long-distance communication, etc.
6. Pin Descriptions:
️· RO: Receiver Output
️· RE: Receiver Output Enable
️· DE: Driver Output Enable
️· DI: Driver Input
️· GND: Ground
️· DO/RI: Driver Output/Receiver Input
️· DO/RI: Driver Output/Receiver Input
️· VCC: Positive Power Supply
7. Life Support Policy & Banned Substance Compliance:
️· Standard legal disclaimers regarding use in life-support systems.
️· Statement on compliance with Customer Product Stewardship Specifications (CSP) regarding banned substances.
