WhenrunningintheNORMALMode,whichusesthehighspeedsystemoscillator,andtherefore

consumesmorepower,thesystemclockcanswitchtorunintheSLOWModebysettingthe

HLCLKbitto“0”andsettingtheCKS2~CKS0bitsto“000”or“001”intheSMODregister.This

willthenusethelowspeedsystemoscillatorwhichwillconsumelesspower.Usersmaydecideto

dothisforcertainoperationswhichdonotrequirehighperformanceandcansubsequentlyreduce

powerconsumption.

TheSLOWModeissourcedfromtheLIRCoscillatorandthereforerequirestheseoscillatorstobe

stablebeforefullmodeswitchingoccurs.ThisismonitoredusingtheLTObitintheSMODregister.
