This functionality makes these devices well-suited for smart-grid and other industrial power monitor, control, and protection applications. The ADS131E0x have a highly-programmable multiplexer that allows for temperature, supply, and input short measurements. The PGA gain can be chosen from one of five settings (1, 2, 4, 8, and 12). The ADCs in the device offer data rates of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 kSPS. Device communication is accomplished using an SPI- compatible interface. The device provides four general-purpose I/O (GPIO) pins for general use. Multiple devices can be synchronized using the START pin. The internal reference can be programmed to either 2.4 V or 4 V. The internal oscillator generates a 2.048-MHz clock. Open-circuit detection can be accomplished by using the integrated comparators, with programmable trigger-point settings.
