32 / 98 page ![]() MXT1664T3 2.0 DS40002054A-page 32 2018 Microchip Technology Inc. 7.0 HOST COMMUNICATIONS Communication between the mXT1664T3 and the host is achieved using one of the following interfaces: Any host interface can be used, depending on the needs of the user’s project, but only one interface can be used in any one design. 7.1 Host Communication Mode Selection – COMMSEL Pin The selection of the host I2C or USB interface is determined by connecting the COMMSEL pin according to Table 7-1. 7.2 I2C Mode Selection – I2CMODE Pin The selection of the I2C or the HID-I2C mode is determined by connecting the I2CMODE pin according to Table 7-2. 7.2.1 AUTOMATIC SELECTION OF I2C AND HID-I2C MODES If the I2CMODE pin is left floating (that is, automatic mode selection), the device will listen on both I2C addresses and automatically select the protocol to be used depending on the first message received. In this case the ADDSEL pin determines the primary and secondary I2C addresses, and these in turn determine the communications mode to be used. If the primary I2C address is detected, I2C is used for communications; if the I2C secondary address is detected, HID-I2C is used. The selection of both the communications mode and the I2C addresses is summarized in Table 7-3. •I2C (see Section 8.0 “I2C Communications”) •HID-I2C (see Section 9.0 “HID-I2C Communications”) • USB (see Section 10.0 “USB Communications”) TABLE 7-1: HOST INTERFACE SELECTION COMMSEL Interface Selected Connected to GND I2C Pulled up to VddIO (1) USB Note 1: Requires a pull-up resistor; see Section 2.0 “Schematics” NOTE In USB mode, the I2CMODE pin is unused and should be connected to GND. TABLE 7-2: I2C MODE SELECTION I2CMODE Interface Selected Connected to GND HID-I2C Pulled up to VddIO (1) I2C Floating Mode is selected according to the I2C address (as determined by the ADDSEL pin). See Section 7.2.1 “Automatic Selection of I2C and HID-I2C Modes” for more information. Note 1: Requires a pull-up resistor; see Section 2.0 “Schematics” |
