Address Space Maps

Thereareseveralseparateaddressspacesthatmayappearwithintheaddressrangeoftheflashmemory

device.Oneaddressspaceisvisible(entered)atanygiventime.

• FlashMemoryArray:themainnon-volatilememoryarrayusedforstorageofdatathatmaybe

randomlyaccessedbyasynchronousreadoperations.

• ID/CFI:amemoryarrayusedforfactoryprogrammeddevicecharacteristicsinformation.Thisarea

containstheDeviceIdentification(ID)andCommonFlashInterface(CFI)informationtables.

• SecureSiliconRegion(SSR):aOneTimeProgrammable(OTP)non-volatilememoryarrayusedfor

factoryprogrammedpermanentdata,andcustomerprogrammablepermanentdata.

• LockRegister:anOTPnon-volatilewordusedtoconfiguretheASPfeaturesandlocktheSSR.

• PersistentProtectionBits(PPB):anon-volatileflashmemoryarraywithonebitforeachSector.When

programmed,eachbitprotectstherelatedSectorfromerasureandprogramming.

• PPBLock:avolatileregisterbitusedtoenableordisableprogramminganderasureofthePPBbits.

• Password:anOTPnon-volatilearrayusedtostorea64-bitpasswordusedtoenablechangingthestate

ofthePPBLockBitwhenusingPasswordModesectorprotection.

• DynamicProtectionBits(DYB):avolatilearraywithonebitforeachSector.Whenset,eachbitprotects

therelatedSectorfromerasureandprogramming.

• StatusRegister:avolatileregisterusedtodisplayEmbeddedAlgorithmstatus.

• DataPollingStatus:avolatileregisterusedasanalternate,legacysoftwarecompatible,waytodisplay

EmbeddedAlgorithmstatus.

ThemainFlashMemoryArrayistheprimaryanddefaultaddressspacebut,itmaybeoverlaidbyoneother

addressspace,atanyonetime.EachalternateaddressspaceiscalledanAddressSpaceOverlay(ASO).

Each ASO replaces (overlays) the entire flash device address range. Any address range not defined by a

particularASOaddressmap,isreservedforfutureuse.AllreadaccessesoutsideofanASOaddressmap

returnsnon-valid(undefined)data.Thelocationswilldisplayactivelydrivendatabutthemeaningofwhatever

1’sor0’sappeararenotdefined.
